Similar to oral tradition, objects of adornment carry tactile, tangible histories that are otherwise transient. Jewelry can be a preemptive tool, safety precaution, memento; a moment of celebration. Inspired by this soft and profound communication of jewelry through time, Basha Harris creates work that focuses on the reflective relationship of the wearer to the object.
Basha received her BFA in Jewelry & Metalsmithing from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. She is a founder [and resident artist] of Yours Truly Community Studio, located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
A jeweler and metalsmith by trade, Harris links her passion for education and social justice through ingraining collaboration in her processes. Inspired by both shiny objects and developing functional solutions, she uses art as an agent in creating social change.
